Life Resources recently hosted The Gathering at St. Peter’s Church in North Mount Pleasant, SC on Sunday, October 16, 2016. The second annual fundraiser featured local food, live entertainment and guest speaker, The Rev. Dr. Heather Wright, Executive Director of The Greenwich Center for Hope and Renewal in Greenwich, CT. The Gathering serves as Life Resources’ primary fundraiser for The Seeds of Life Fund which provides affordable mental health related services to the greater Charleston area.
This year’s event highlighted the organization’s growth as a key resource to the community through vignettes featuring local influencers and ministry leaders. The evening also featured a conversation between Pastor Paul Sorensen of Daniel Island Fellowship and guest speaker, The Rev. Dr. Heather Wright. The pair discussed Wright’s background in ministry and her passion for faith-integrated counseling as well as voiced the need for practices similar to Life Resources across the United States. Dr. Barbara Boatwright, Founder and Director of Life Resources, then gave a brief presentation on the progress of the organization since its inception, while asserting future financial goals they must reach in order to continue to help individuals and families in need across the Lowcountry.
At The Gathering, guests were treated to a relaxed and fun evening, including a book signing of Rev. Dr. Wright’s recently published book, Sacred Stress and live music by Half-Brother featuring Dwight Huthwaite and Vicki Marsi. The dinner was provided by Good Food Catering with dessert from The Village Bakery and beverages by The Wine Shop of Charleston. St. Peter’s Church graciously hosted the event and Fox Music House assisted in running the audio and visual aspects of the evening. Abide-A-While and Out of Hand Events supplied the interior and exterior décor. The Gathering would have not been possible without the following sponsors: Andrews Mediation & Law Firm, Applegate & Co., The Bank of South Carolina, Carolina Eye Care Physicians, Daniel Island Fellowship, Southern Diversified Distributors, Blount and Joanne Ellison, Dick and Eva Fitzgerald, Ben and Penn Hagood, Pat and Pam McKinney, Bart and Marian Proctor and Eleanor Flack.
The Seeds of Life Fund aims to develop and sustain Life Resources’ mission of personal transformation through healing, equipping and training for people to successfully discern and fulfill their purpose in life. Donations enable Life Resources to financially assist those in need of counseling that they would otherwise be unable to afford, offset the cost of training opportunities for professionals to grow in their clinical and theological competencies, and provide community wide resources for free or at a reduced cost to the Lowcountry and beyond. Scholarships are funded through the generous support of individuals, churches and various ministry partners in the local area. All proceeds raised at The Gathering go towards The Seeds of Life Fund.
